In drawings and artist’s books, Joyce Lyon works
from observation with an acute sense of the
layering of time. She has made work about the
known and unknown in her garden at night
(Approaches to the Garden) and about her
attempts to understand her father’s Holocaust
experience (Conversations with Rzeszow). Lately
she has been intrigued with pilgrimage as journey
and as metaphor for the process of translating experience into art. Her work is in collections nationally. In Minneapolis she exhibits with Groveland Gallery and Form+Content.  She has received three Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowships
and a Jerome /MCBA Books Arts grant and is Associate Professor of Art at
the University of Minnesota
